PTDA Industry Summit 2007 in the spotlight

PTDA 2007 Industry Summit focused on helping members communicate, collaborate and innovate for business success.

The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) Industry Summit was held October 18-20 in Palm Desert, California.

The 2007 Summit - themed "Communicate. Collaborate. Innovate."- brought together nearly 850 attendees, including 201 distributors and 377 manufacturers, and international delegates from Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, England, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Innovate - Communicate - Solve
Highlights of the 2007 Industry Summit included a keynote address by Dr. Robert Kriegel on change performance and innovation. Dr. Kriegel provided attendees with real-life examples of companies that have gained the competitive edge by thinking outside the box and reinventing traditional business strategies whereas Alan Beaulieu gave a thought-provoking economic update and witty short-and long-term forecasts.

Two workshops featured J. Michael Marks of Indian River ConsultingGroup who first offered innovative approaches to enhancing your company’s Web site to better serve customers and streamline operations. The next session focused on resolving conflicts successfully between distributors and manufacturers and provided attendees with ideas on how to best manage relationships for success.

In her workshop, Marilyn Moats Kennedy described generational characteristics and motivations and provided a handful of tips to improve communication and Neil Gholson of Deloitte Consulting explained how to use the distributor value map model to assess operational efficiency and market strategies.

Finding new channels to grow
Once again this year, the Industry Summit featured also its signature table-top booth program - the Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange (MD-IDEX). Since helping members find new channels to market and grow their businesses stood out as a key element of the PTDA Industry Summit, the association offered members a four-hour workshop titled "Understanding Basic Motion Control Technologies and Components."

Led by Charles Bartel of the Association of International Motion Engineers (AiME), attendees acquired an understanding of the four basic motion control technologies and learned how these technologies can be used in factory applications. For the second year, the Industry Summit hosted the Motion Control Showcase, featuring exhibits from 25 motion control suppliers.

PTDA members considering expanding into the motion control arena and looking for additional suppliers to support current offerings viewed live demonstrations of the latest hardware and gathered information from the motion control market’s top players.
