The slip ring models ISTSR085 and ISTSR060 (ø 85 and 60mm) with a modular system construction offer a high degree of flexibility in a wide variety of applications. They feature fully encapsulated housing, up to IP64 protection rating and resistance to vibration and long service intervals of more than 50 million revolutions and a service life of over 500 million. The system allows the combination of various load and signal channels, allowing for customised versions. The integrated labyrinth seal combines internal dust protection with electrical isolation between
the load and signal channels. Furthermore the construction of the springs guarantees reliable transmission, even when subjected to a high level of vibration. The pick-off springs mounted in the stator ring for load currents contain copper graphite, ensuring high abrasion resistance, whilst the pick-off springs for signal currents are manufactured from a gold/platinum alloy, with a minimum 50% gold content. The units are simple and convenient to handle and maintain, as a result of the easily accessible, sturdy connections, removable maintenance window as well as the individually replaceable brush rings.

In order to provide maintenance-free operation of the new power and free conveyor chains, the Megalife conveyor chains features a special link with specially sintered metal bushes and running rollers. In addition, the chains feature a built-in lubricant reservoir which supplies the chain links and running rollers with lubricant during the chain operation: The sintered material is saturated with oil under vacuum conditions. The surface of the chains are lubricant- free new and do not need to be relubricated during use. Plastic and hardened steel versions of the conveyor chains (V2Asteel or nickel-plated) are available. Chains with steel rollers can be used at a temperature range from -40 to 160°C, while versions with plastic conveying rollers are suitable for up to 80°C. Megalife power and free conveyor chains are available with pitches of 12.70 and 19.05mm.

The TMC454 is optimized for the control of stepper motors in applications that require extreme precision. Stepper motors are often selected as reliable low-cost drive elements. Stepper motors provide high torque even at low speed. This simplifies the mechanical design for many applications and saves cost if a gear is not necessary due to the high torque at low speed. This model is designed as a peripheral component, which is parameterized by a microcontroller via 8-bit bus or I2C like bus. Thus the motion control is performed precisely in the dedicated high-speed hardware. Stepper motor power stages can be driven via stepper-/direction interface and external lowcost DACs. The device comes in a RoHS compliant 144 pin BGA package of size 12x12mm. The ball grid pitch of 1mm gives good process ability even on older manufacturing units.

The CDE3000 servo controller series features a simple control interface, high-quality control performance and optimum utilisation of the power electronics. It offers full support for the CANopen DSP402 profile. In implementing the CIA Modes of Operation, close attention was paid to standards conformance. Features include: over 35 homing runs, four freely mappable Rx and 4Tx PDOs, Profile Velocity, Profile Position and Interpolated Position modes as well as double overload at 8 kHz. Intelligent software functions such as online switching frequency changing permit optimum utilisation of the installed hardware. 16 kHz switching frequency and the resultant benefits in terms of volume reduction are delivered as standard. The software selects the highest possible switching frequency to meet the dynamic requirements of the positioning task, the drive achieves optimum control quality and makes optimum use of the hardware, as well as demonstrating cost-saving benefits, as it means a lower power class can often be used. The standardised CAN-connected servo controllers offer a cost-effective solution for applications in the 2 to 170 Ampere (0.75 to 90kW) range.

The TMK stator is 100% compatible with the mechanical interface of the TMB series motors. However, the TMK rotor features a mechanical design which allows for improved robustness and increased performance. The design increases the torque as a result of a flux concentrating structure. For a given current, the TMK motor produces a 20% increase in torque. This means the continuous torque for a TMK motor is 20% higher than a TMB motor (with identical peak torque). An additional advantage of the new rotor design is the integration of magnets into slots. This is an improvement in the mechanical protection of the motor and increases its resistance to pollution (dirt, oils, aggressive solvants, etc.) during handling and operations. The laminated structure of the rotor and the optimization of the rotor teeth are responsible for an increase in the motor’s speed.

The bearings’ raceways have an enhanced surface finish, and the highgrade balls ensure smooth running and reduced noise. The range of single-row deep groove ball bearings is available from stock in the size ranges 6000 to 6012, 6200 to 6212, and 6300 to 6310, with bore diameters from 10mm to 60mm or 50mm, in open version, 2RS2 version (sealed with two synthetic rubber seals) and 2Z version (sealed with two steel shields) and with clearances CN (standard) and C3.

The Rotoscan RS4-4M Safety Laser Scanner is designed for mobile applications. MotionMonitoring allows up to 6 speed values to be monitored and detection zones to be adjusted. The entire functionality is performed by the scanner and the PLC. A safety PLC is therefore no longer necessary in most cases. The detection zone determined by the traveling direction and traveling speed of the vehicle is adjusted on the basis of the detection zones and their situation-conditional activation. The measuring procedure allows to measure distances to and from defined reference planes. This makes it possible to precisely determine positions. A transfer trolley can consequently stop exactly where it is supposed to in front of a conveyor belt to transfer the transported material. In addition to the classic areas of application with danger area guarding on mobile systems, the 4M extended version also has the necessary approvals for vertical access and danger point guarding. The resolution can be varied between 30 and 150mm.

The Cartridge DDR direct drive motors in smaller sizes (with flange sizes of 108, 137 and 188mm) combine the advantages of direct drive motors - which include small dimensions and constant, high torque, high dynamics and accuracy, as well as low maintenance and wear - with the fast assembly of enclosed motors. This allows smaller machines to be built more quickly - machines that provide higher workpiece quality at higher output, while generating lower follow-up costs than conventional solutions. These motors can be connected directly to the load and therefore do not require mechanical intermediate elements, such as gearboxes, clutches or belts. Components which are not needed do not generate any costs during development, assembly, administration or maintenance. In addition, they cannot wear or lead to machine breakdowns and repair costs. The motors allow up to 50 times greater accuracy than conventional drive-motor combinations while also allowing machine designers to save considerable time.

The roller chains are available with seamless rollers, which increase the working life of the chain and give smoother quieter running. This protection against dynamic loading, such as might be experienced with pallet handling duties is achieved by eliminating the point of weakness present with seamed rollers. Tests have shown that these seamless rollers are able to withstand approximately 25% higher vertical loads than conventional curled rollers. The chain is produced with two different types of seam-free rollers; one is cold formed the other is produced from
precision tubes. The cold formed seamless rollers are heat treated and undergo intensive shot peening. Then they are calibrated to ensure accurate parallelism and uniform wall thickness. These rollers are used on the chain sizes 08 B to 24 B and 08 A to 24 A. Precision tubes with strict geometrical tolerances and uniform wall thickness are employed for chain types 28 B to 72 B and 28 A and 48 A.

The devices in four frame sizes enable soft starting of motors in standard applications such as pumps, conveyor belts, or fans up to 55 kilowatts at 400 volts. It improves the startup characteristics of motors with two-phase polarity balancing, and avoids mechanical loads, voltage fluctuations, and current peaks. This protects not only the drive system but also the power network and thus minimizes maintenance overhead and expensive current peaks. The user can easily set the startup time and the starting voltage using two potentiometers on the device. In the 45mm frame size, the 3RW30 takes the place of a star-delta switch and saves up to 70% of control cabinet space while delivering the same performance power. The TorqSense RWT330/340 series is designed for use in applications where space is limited. It provides non-contact measurement of torque, speed, power and position of rotating shafts, such as machine rives, drive shafts for pumps, fans, mixers etc, and in the critical axes of test rigs. TorqSense uses tiny piezo-ceramic combs fixed to the transducer's shaft that distort in proportion to the instantaneous torque level. These create data signals that are transmitted via a non-contact radio frequency coupling rather than by conventional but clumsy slip rings, or high enertia rotary transformers. Because piezo technology requires so little power, this is also supplied via the RF coupling. This data signal is transmitted to the control unit, from which it can be read on an alpha-numeric display or transferred to a PC for storage and analysis using the TorqView software programme.
