Baumer Group, a leading international supplier of sensors and sensor solutions, celebrated in January the grand opening of its Chinese subsidiary in Shanghai. Baumer China was already registered as a representative for Baumer products in September 2006 and now serves as the group's business center in the Northern Asia region. This incorporates the sales offices of Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenyang and Shanghai. Today Baumer China already employs 40 people in sales, marketing, technical service and logistics. AMA Association for Sensor Technology nominates three enties
On occasion of its Trade Exhibition Sensor+Test, 6 - 8 May 2008 in Nürnberg, Germany, AMA Fachverband für Sensorik e.V. (AMA Association for Sensor Techno¬logy) will award its 8th annual € 10,000 Sensor Innovation Award. The jury has reached a decision and nominated three entries for its award. Entries are judged by their height of innovation, the prize is not meant to award basic academic research. Rather, it is intended for practically useful applications. And finally, the rule states that this prize goes to the developers, e.g. the actual heads, and not to companies or institutes behind the development. Of the 25 applications, nine come from outside Germany, and three works are of such outstanding quality that the jury nominated them. "In contrast to the past, this year we do not register a specific trend in the innovations. Rather, the three nominees reflect the broad innovative scope in sensor technology and its applications," comments Professor Schütze, "which corresponds quite well with the breadth of sensor technology and its applications as represented by the Sensor+ Test." In a second round, the jury will
decide on this year’s winner or on possibly splitting the award among the group of three nominees. The award will be presented in Nürnberg on May 6, 2008, during the Sensor+Test.

Italian power transmission & motion control exhibition
For industries operating in the power transmission sector, Italy represents an interesting and opportunity-rich market, as confirmed by the 2007 closing estimates supplied by various areas and by the general outlook for 2008. This sector’s 2008 benchmark showcase exhibition will be Mechanical Power Transmission & Motion Control, the Biennial International Exhibition of Motion Control Systems, Drive Techniques and Mechanical Power Transmission, which is scheduled to be held at Fieramilano, Rho, from 27th to 30th May 2008. In particular, of great interest are the numerous positive signals coming from the major fields of application which represent the driving force behind the entire sector and render the Italian market an interesting customer base for worldwide producers. This scenario, naturally, has had positive repercussions on the power transmission market, as demonstrated by data published by ASSIOT, The Italian Association of Power Transmission Equipment and Gear Manufacturers. The sector’s overall turnover reached 4.4 billion Euros, with an increase of 17.3% compared with 2005. The market trend for gears and mechanical transmission equipment, estimated at around 2.5 billion Euros, continues favourably: in Italy, production and exports register increases of 15.8% and 18.5% respectively.
